When golf was still an elite sport, the golf establishment that gages greatness turned him away. Who was this world-class golfer who carried his own bag? Who dressed and behaved so oddly? Norman is a high-school dropout and math prodigy. Is he a genius? Or did a childhood accident leave him with a different window on this world? When Norman won the Canadian Amateur Golf Championship in Calgary in 1955, he hid in the bushes by the Elbow River when the championship trophy was awarded. He couldn't bear the thought of people looking at him, or of having to give a speech. His behaviour resembles autism but he has never been diagnosed.
